Beatrice

Return to Women in Congo

Beatrice has been a single mother since her husband was kidnapped three years ago. She writes about her feelings on the war and the elections:

From her first letter:

People are preparing the general elections but I am pessimistic about it taking into account the situation in which we are living now.

1)People are killed like animals. Rwandan soldiers are raping women in villages.
2)There are many infiltrates in our country
3)This is the first time for most of the people to elect
4)People who live in the forests because of war, how will they elect?

I do not have much to say.

From her second Letter:

May God's peace, grace and love be with you. I was very happy to get a letter from you. Thanks a lot for all what you said. For the time being, I'm doing well. Only God knows about the future.

A little about me. I'm a mother of 5, but only 3 of them are still alive because 2 others have died.

I have 2 boys and 1 girl. All of them are in the same class, that is the 3rd grade of elementary school.

My husband was kidnapped by soldiers in Kitutu 3 years ago and hasn't returned yet since then. Both my parts are still alive and live in my village. I'm the 6th child in my family of 12 of us. 9 of us died. So we are 3 of us left.

When my husband left me, I decided to start carrying loads to get some money. My clothes got torn and I remained with only one cloth.

When I got you as a friend from far away you started supporting me. Thanks and please keep on having this spirit of love.
